Deepseek for the common man

Mark, February 5, 2025

My meagre experience and knowledge of the AI seems to have garnered the below two conclusions: 1: You need powerful hardware2: You need to run a version of Deepseek that’s better than 1.5b No doy, right? That’s exactly what every other youtube video I have watched recommends. I have found…

Mark, February 5, 2025February 5, 2025

Okay, so I’m trying to figure out why we call an orange an orange. It’s kind of a straightforwardquestion, but maybe there’s more to it than meets the eye. Let me start by thinking about where orangescome from. They’re typically from China, right? I remember hearing that they were originally…

Mark, January 30, 2025January 30, 2025

Now this is a weird one, and I’ll drop a couple of links to explain. It all started here, when I wanted to move my Steam library over to my UNAS Pro, because, well, it’s got a lot of space and 10GB connectivity to my main gaming machine. So running…

10GB Cabling

Mark, January 28, 2025January 28, 2025

I have previously used a hodge-podge of fibre cabling, DAC cabling, odds and ends of transceivers and it’s all just been a mess. Right now, I am using the 10Gtek 10GB SFP+ cables and they are working great. No longer the case that I am mixing and matching one with…

Mark, January 28, 2025January 28, 2025

Okay, so I left this till last because I have a lot to say. Also, it’s on the bottom of the rack so, ehm, chronology. My UP (Im not typing that over and over) is populated with 7x 4TB Ironwolf drives. I think some might be pro’s but for the…

8TB WD Elements Shuck!

Mark, January 26, 2025January 28, 2025

This was my first shuck. My UNAS Pro currently houses around 5.25TB of data, and I already have a rackmount Synology RS812 that has a backup of most of it. I was using this drive in it’s USB housing for a few years now, but I have always wondered about…

Really I have just been thinking about the future. I love tech, I love building tech, I love using tech, I really enjoy pushing tech to the limits of what it can do and reaping the rewards that it brings. Right now the new switches and hardware have ‘etherlighting’, it’s…

This is the main switch for my stack. The main usage for this switch is the PoE powering of my G5 Turret camera and the U7 Pro access point. I also have a G3 Flex camera powered by a Unifi Device Bridge, and one of the USB only powered (and…

UNAS Pro Transfer Speeds To Windows C:

Mark, January 25, 2025January 28, 2025

Future Unifiguy here, this was obviously copying to my C: on Windows. When I transfer to my secondary drive NVMe, there’s a lot less ups and downs with transfer speeds. I’m going to leave this here just to note how stupid I am, but if anyone has these issues then…

Introduction
I am just a guy who loves Unifi products. I mean, it's great, right? Expensive but it does the job. And gosh-darn it, every generation of products they produce have just more and more blinky lights, and even next-gen GLOWY lights! Amazing. Just my journey through the Unifi Universe.
