Let’s begin by talking about the rack. As I said below, I migrated from a 25U rack. To be honest, I never really used every unit of space in the 25U, but it was an amazing buy as Covid started in 2020 that kept me from going, well, at least completely insane. I still have the 25U rack for future’ing my setup, I cant see it going anywhere soon, but when I was considering the future of what I wanted to do with my network I just thought that 6U was about exactly what I needed. Plus it’s a cute little rack, I mean, who wouldnt want to use it!
The rack itself is toolless, as stated. It was a simple enough build but I think for the price paid that it could be a bit stronger. I dont really like the mounting rails and mounting system, it’s basic. That’s all I can really say. Thankfully everything that I wanted to add to this was compatible with the rack (yes, there are some pieces of Unifi gear that are not so check the official website for compatability before purchase) but it serves as a solid little holder for all my blinky toys.
It is very mobile, easy to move, lighter than I would have expected but it just sits under my network desk and in all honesty, no complaints. If you want something that is 6U, matches the rest of the Unifi gear and looks good to boot, then this is going to be your rack. I wish Unifi, even optionally, provided a top tray/stand/table top/cover for it but it is what it is, I just plonk my modem and wifi above it and there’s no issues with overheating etc.
Quite happy with this purchase, I’d give a 7/10 score for this one.
