I Love Expensive Blinky Lights

The Current Setup

January 25, 2025

I thought I would give a good first post by defining my current setup and it’s uses. To anyone who is familiar with Unifi gear, this will all look standard. Mostly this is enough to power a small business of 10-50 people, for me, it’s just enough to give me decent wifi and file storage.

Top to bottom:
Unifi UDM Pro
Unifi 10GB Aggregation Switch
Unifi USW PoE and Network Switch
Unifi Patch Panel
Unifi UNAS Pro with 7x 4TB Ironwolf drives
Unifi Toolless Rack

Altogether this is a reduction and migration from my TrueNAS homemade setup and 25U rack. I have replaced some items recently, and there’s other items not in this shot! (because of course there are) These include a UDB, 3x cameras, and I have some now redundant Unifi rackmount gear.

I’m going to run through all of the items in following posts as time goes on. Maybe someone will find these little blog one-shots useful. Despite all the gear, I am not someone who is really bothered about artificial speed tests, which cable brand is better than the other etc. I am just a real world plebian who likes blinky lights. Let’s go!

Introduction
I am just a guy who loves Unifi products. I mean, it's great, right? Expensive but it does the job. And gosh-darn it, every generation of products they produce have just more and more blinky lights, and even next-gen GLOWY lights! Amazing. Just my journey through the Unifi Universe.
