The usage of this is simple – 8 SFP+ ports to connect all your other devices via 10GB connections via SFP+ connections only. Previously I was using a US-16-XG switch which, essentially, has more connectivity than the Aggregation Switch with 10GB ethernet ports (I havent sold this yet, it’s in a box awaiting a use) but one of the biggest issues that I have had is that the noise of running my own network rack/s at home and the fact that the Aggregation Switch is fanless. Is this extra bit of silence worth the spending money on the Aggregation Switch? Probably not, but I am trying to move away from 10GB Ethernet, and ethernet altogether so it made sense to build this into the rack.
The SFP+ ports and throughput I have had no issues with. This has been so rock solid since purchase it’s bloomin’ boring to say the least. That being said, if it aint broke, then dont fiddle with it until you break it. It’s a lovely addition to the rack. I have had no issue setting up the ports, I do want to add link aggregation to my MS-01 at some point for full 20GB throughput but to be honest, for what I use the MS-01 for it’s totes overkill.
This is probably a good point to talk about the Unifi port manager utility within the control centre. So easy to set up aggregation, switching ports between 1GB/10GB with SFP or ethernet and you can identify what’s connected where, using the augmented reality app.
Very much 10/10, again, it’s boring as hell because it just works as it’s supposed to, but its totally worry free and plug and play.
